Sammendrag
This paper presents the final results of an investigation on plasticity and grain size distribution in Norwegian soils. A part of the results has been summarized in \"Proceedings of the Third International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering\". The laboratory work has been done in the years 1950-52 and the report has been written the winter 1952-53. The methods of analysis employed and referred to are mostly standardized ones. Unless otherwise stated, materials dried at 110 dgrs. C have been used for clay analyses. The parameters employed for the preparation of cumulative curves appear from fig. 1. In table III the parameters used in USA are compared with those used in the paper. Median particle size Md, sorting or the spread So, and skewness or symmetry Sk are the parameters on which the statistics are based. Errors caused by the parting of the samples for analysis, as well as by drying them at 110 dgrs. C before analysis is carried out, are considered in a discussion on the accuracy of the analysis. Further is indicated the probable extent of errors due to various treatments previous to drying, and other errors normally arising from the methods applied.
