Sammendrag
Rocks of latest Precambrian and Eocambrian age (the Sparagmite Group) dominate in the Fåvang area. In the western part they are overlain by Cambrian and Ordovician rocks. The stratigraphy of the sparagmite rocks (p. 58) is almost the same as in the classical area at lake Mjøsa. The rocks in the Fåvang area are supposed to be in an autochthonous or parautochthonous position. They are only slightly metamorphosed. The stratigraphy of the sparagmite rocks in the Fåvang area is from below: Eldstad sparagmite, Eldstad shale, Brøttum sparagmite, Brøttum shale and limestone (?), Biri conglomerate, Biri shale and limestone, Moelv sparagmite, Moelv conglomerate (tillite), Ekre shale, Vemdal sandstone (quartz-sandstone) and finally Svartskar shale (Lower Cambrian?). The Fåvang area belongs to the miogeosynclinal zone of the Caledonian Mountain Chain. The tectonic problems in this area, must therefore be seen in relation to the development of the Caledonides in central southeast Norway. The Vemdal sandstone with its typical imbricate structure (fig. 13 and fig. 18), was detached in the Ekre shale from the older sparagmites and moved in southerly or southeasterly direction.
