Marbles at Beiarn are a part of the Sokumfjell Group belonging to the Beiarn Nappe Complex in the Uppermost Allochthon of the Nordland Caledonides. The Sokumfjell Group marbles have been subjected to several phases of deformation culminating with amphibolite facies metamorphism. The 1:5,000 mapping of ca. 1000 m-thick carbonate sequence reveals four different lithofacies of calcite marbles and one composed of diagenetically formed dolomite marble. The calcite marbles exhibit, througout, different scale rhythmic bedding and textural grading indicating that carbonate material was redeposited by pelagic turbidite system. Both proximal and distal facies have been identified. (forkortet)
