dc.description.abstract | The paper describes an occurrence of comparatively pure quartz near lake Krøderen in Krødsherad, southern Norway. The quantity of quartz available by quarrying from the surface now exposed to a depth of about 5 m is estimated at 400-500 000 tons. The quartz occurs in beds or massive bodies in the younger subdivisions of the precambrian formation of southern Norway. The rock has not the appearance of ordinary quartzite but generally looks very much like pegmatite quartz. It shows no schistosity although it often occurs in massive benches. It is very coarse-grained, the size of individual grains sometimes exceeding 10 cm, and contains a large number of liquid inclusions with mobile bubbles just like those occurring in quartz from granites and pegmatites. | |
