The first pages are devoted to a brief description of the phenomena upon which the hardening process of steel is based. Hardening temperatures are quoted and the magnetic conditions in steel are roughly described and explained. On pages 9-10 the principle of hardening furnaces in general is given without further descriptive particulars. Page 10-12 explain the principle of a magnetic detector for finding the correct hardening condition for steel and its application in the Wild-Barfield hardening furnace. Instructions for use, and reslults obtained from working conditions are given, pages 13-20. As result from the tests, pages 20 and 22, it is found that the furnace answers wll to the claims made for it and, is recommended for the hardening of carbon steels and alloy steels with moderate additions of alloying elements. In the last chapter, pages 22 and 23 its adaptability for alloy steels is briefly described.
