dc.description.abstractTopography and climatis conditions are favourable for the utilization of surface water in Norway, such that the ground water does not play the same role for the water supply as in most countries During the last years, however, drilling for water in rock has been of great consequence, especially for the farms in most places in Norway. The ground water quantities obtained from drilled wells in rocks are relatively small, and the water magazines in the fracture-systems are restricted. The possibilities for utilization of ground water from quaternary sand and gravel deposits are in places overlooked. Glacifluvial deposits in some Norwegian valleys offer goos conditions for ground water supply. Last year wells were developed for industrial and domestic water supply at Rena and Elverum. At both places water are obtained from glacifluvial deposits along the river Glomma in central southeastern Norway. At Rena Kartonfabrik a 20 m deep well has a safe production of about 6000 l\/min. The situation of the wells there is shown in fig. 1 and 2, and the character of the sediments in fig. 3. At Elverum the water is obtained from gravel beneath strata of loam and fine sand.
