dc.description.abstractIn the present paper are published some preliminary results of a study on glacigene material in two strongly glaciated valleys in Central Norway, namely Gudbrandsdalen and Gausdal. Particular attention has been paid to petrographic, morphometric and granulometric analyses that give information of the origin and transportation of the material. At an early stage of the study it was noticed that, in Gudbrandsdalen, deposits that granulometrically should be classified as glacial till contained water-worn pebbles in conspicuous quantities. This observation necessitated a systematic investigation of the relation between the petrographic composition and morphometric properties in general, particulary of the pebble size. The pebble material is classified into two groups according to the distance travelled. This simple grouping is favoured by the distribution of the geological sparagmites occurring within the investigated area. The far-travelled component consists of igneous and metamorphic rocks from the far-off Jotun nappes and associated complexes.
