Abstract

Forkortet: The present treatise is a description of the geological map of Oslo, a tack which was prescribed in 1893-94 by the authorities of the Academic College of the University in competition for the gold medal awarded by his Royal Highness the Crown Prince. Pp. 1-6 contain the introduction which describes the situation of the city and its history with something about the meaning of the geological map and the development of its geology and about its geology and about the previous contributors regarding the Oslo district. Pp. 6-9 treat of the Archaean rocks which occur within the boundary of the map at Ekeberg and near the fortress of Akershus. It consists of gneiss, here and there with dark masses and veins of amphibolite with a few intrusive veins of pegmatite; the Ekeberg gneiss is supposed to be altered granite. In addition the fault dislocation and the brecciated rock along the line of faulting on the northern boundary of Ekeberg are mentioned; the Silurians of the Oslo valley have been thrown down by faulting. Pp. 9-35 treat of the Silurian which in Norway, according to Kjerulf is divided into stages (etasjer), the stages are again by Brøgger divided into subdivisions; pp. 9-15 deal with stages 1 and 2 (=Cambrian).
