En notis om istidsgruset ved Lysefjordens munding
Abstract
Forkortet: The mouth of the Lysefjord is situated at 58\u00B0 52' n.l. to the SE of the town of Stavanger. The glacial deposits here are of interests in the history of geology Esmark found as far back as 1824 at this place proofs\"that the Norwegian moun- tains have been covered with ice to the sea, and that consequently the sea itself had been a glacial sea\". The glacial deposits are dotted on the map p.96. The next drawing shows the headland seen from a point to the NW of the church of Fossan. On the map an esker is marked. The esker is narrow ridge consisting of rolled gravel. To the E of it is an uncultivated plain of sand and gravel 30 m above the sea. A typical end-moraine dams in the Haukeli lake, which at present has its outlet at the northern end. The uppermost part of the moraine was found to be 85 m above the sea (not 47 m as given in the (Norwegian text) and about 21 m above the lake. On the picture p.94 H marks the Haukeli lake. In the foreground the plain is to the right and the moraine to the left. A small remnant of another moraine is seen in the distance at x.
