Forkortet: The Andøy Coal field lies on the Eastern side of the isle of Andøy in Northern Norway (70\u00B0N). A sketch map of the northern part of this isle is found on p.28, where the coal-field is shaded. The diagram om p.6 gives a somewhat idealized section of the coal-field; a. Granite, b. Chlorite and amphibole schist. c. Light grey sandstone with coal and bituminous shale. d. Dark sandstone rich in mica with only traces of coal. e. Light grey sandstone some- what different from f. Shales with nodules of clay ironstone. The fossils, ammonites, belemnites etc., show that the deposits belong to the Brown Jura. The details may be studied from the borings as shown on the accompanying plate and on p.12. Economically the most valuable coal seam is the \"one meter seam\", that crops out of the Southern end of the field and is met with again in the deeper parts of the borings. It is Cannel coal, according to Mr. W.Hislop, of a value of somewhat more than 60% (63.17%) of the standard Scotch Cannel coal. It yields a gas of great light, but the coke is of little value as a fuel.
