dc.description.abstract | The present publication is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Hans H. Reusch,\r late director of the Norwegian Geological Survey. It also contains a\r bibliography of books, papers, and articles published by Dr. Reusch.\r Dr. Reusch entered the University of Oslo in 1869, at the age of 17 years,\r and soon became absorbed in scientific studies. In 1875, after having\r obtained his degree at the University, he was appointed assistant geologist\r in the Geological Survey. He remained in the service of that institution\r till his retirement in 1921, a period of 46 years. For the greater part of\r this time, from 1888 on, he was director of the Survey.\rDr. Reusch was a man of great intellectual versatility. He was not only a\r geologist, well informed in all branches of his science, he was also a\rgeographer of wide reputation, being called to Harward University for the\r year 1897-1898 to lecture physical geogrphy, and teaching the same subject\r for many years in Oslo university. He was warmly interested in education\r and in the popular distribution of science, founded and edited for many\r years the magazine \"Naturen\" to which he personally contributed numerous\r articles, wrote several popular text books for school and home use, and\r took lively part in discussion on educational subjects. | |
