Forkortet: The peat-mosses studied occur on the eastern side of the Christianafjord in the environs of the small city of Sarpsborg. The upper 2-3 metres of the masses consist of sphagnum, which at the surface is in full growth. In the most cases one finds under this stratum another, which often contains rests of vaccinum, calluna, myrica gale and other higher organized plants. The upper stratum is suitable for mosslitter, the under one gives fuel, though not of best quality. The author compares the mosses at the Christiani oafjord with those known to him from the treeless district of Jæderen to the South of Stavanger on the south-western coast of the country. Here the fresh sphagnum-peat is not found, but only rather carbonized varieties. He distinguishes two sorts of bog at Jæderen: one, which is in large part formed of moss and well qualified for fuel, and an other, which gives much ash, is rich in carex, eriophorum, phragmites and equisetum, and well fit for cultivation.
