Forkortet: The uppermost Fig. on p.79 shows the low mountains on the north side of the inner part of the Varangerfjord not far from the Russian border. At b and x occurs a little schist. The rest of the moountains consists of conglomerate at least 50 m thick. The conglomerate (the second fig. on p.79) shows no trace of stratification. It is a redish claybearing sandstone filled with stones attain- ing the size of a head or more. The big stones are rather few. The stones are mostly of Archaean origin, gneiss and granite; also dioritic rocks occur; dolomite and pure quartz are found comparatively seldom. The stones have not the habitus of water-worn rolling-stones. The conglomerate has quite the appearance of boulder-clay. It was therefore very inviting to search for stri- ated stones. The search was at first not successful; only some small slickensides in the groundmass and on some surface of the boulders were found. The slickensides were covered with a chloritic substance.
