Abstract

This essay can be regarded as a description of samples of Norwegian clays, collected by the author during 6 weeks in the summer of 1922, for the purpose of investigations in the laboratories of \"Statens Raastofkomite\". The collection of samples was confirmed to the pits of the brickworks, in order to have as good a survey as possible of the geological facts. Amongst 100 brickworks in Norway about 80 are in continous work. About 50 were visited by the author last summer, and are situated in the districts of the eastern, southern and western part of the country. To obtain a complete description of the clay deposits used for brickworking, it will be necessary to investigate the brickworks in the city of Oslo and its surroundings, several in the inland districts north of the city and finally in the north- western and northern parts of Norway.
