On the first of July 1940 a clay-slide took place on the beach of lake Aaserumvatnet, 10 km West of Sandefjord. The slide occurred in several repetitions. Commencing at 7 o'clock in the morning the ground was not at rest until 8 in the evening. A road was wasted, and a provisory one was built through the slide, which had a length of 50 m and an area of 7500 sq. metres. 3 years later investigations showed that the bearing capacity of the ground was still so low that it would be unable to bear the weight of a permanent road built up to the high water level of the lake.
