dc.description.abstractThe Mikkeljord sphalerite-galena deposits are situated in Susendal in the northern part of Norway. The area is strongly covered and only 5 small orebodies have been found each with a length of less than 20 m and with a width less than 1\/2 m. They are much too small to be mined. The deposits are classified as Caledonian, epithermal breccia deposits, probably below 450 degrees C. They are found in Cambro-Silurian schists. Ore minerals are (in probable order of deposition): arsenopyrite, pyrrhotite, marcasite-pyrite, sphalerite (dark) galena, pyrite, sphalerite (light), chalcopyrite, tetrahedrite, hematite. Hematite is only found as needles in small secondary veins filled with quartz or calcite which are penetrating the ore. The assay given on p. 148 is too high to represent an average grade of the deposits. Gangue minerals are mainly quartz, some calcite, sericite and albite. The main strike of the surrounding quartz-sericite-schist is N-S. The ore-bodies extend in a E-W direction and have a steep dip. The ore is deposited in cracks and fissures.
