dc.description.abstract | A preliminary report on the Verdal map area: The Verdal amp area, a part of the Trondhjem region, has been investigated. The present paper is a preliminary report. The investigation shows the following stratigraphical units: 1. Hærvola granite is a foliated slightly pink rock partly developed as an augen gneiss. Towards the contact with the overlying mica schist the granite shows a cataclastic texture. Granitic dykes are found cutting through the mica schist and for this reason it has formerly been thought to be younger than the mica schist. Because of the cataclastic texture which is found in the granite massif and in the dykes, the present author believes that the dykes are tectonic, not intrusive, in origin. The age of the granite is Precambrian. 2. The Malsådalen schists are not homogenous, but consist of several zones of mica schists, amphibolites and quartzites. 3. The Skjækerdalen schists are green and greyish micaschists with layers of bituminous schist interbedded. Concordant quartz dioritic dykes are found along the eastern border of the Skjækerdalen schists. The Malsådalen and Skjækerdalen schists have been correlated with the Røros- group (Cambrian and Lowermost Ordovician). | |
