A general description of the bedrock geology is presented. The map area has a threefold tectono-stratigraphic division. 1: The Precambrian (Sveco-karelian) besement rocks are subdivided into two complexes. The older one, the Rai'sædno Complex, is composed mainly of granitic rocks with bands and lenses of quartzite and amphibolite. The Njallajåkka Complex consists of metamorphic sedimentary, volcanic and intrusive rocks including leucodiabase. 2: The autochthonous Dividal Group of latest Precambrian - Cambrian age is a 60-130 m-thick pile of sedimentary rocks, mainly shale and sandstone. 3: The allochthonous rocks belonging to the Caledonian Tierta and Nalganas nappes are metasediments. A brief description of the structural geology and the metamorphism of the different units in the area is given. Occurences of copper in the Njallajåkka Complex are described. They are divided into two types; a vein-type copperrich paragenesis, and a layered type of impregnation and in some cases massive sulphides poor in base metals. A uranium deposit in a breccia at Av'zevarri is briefly described.
