dc.description.abstractForkortet: The map on p.29 shows the chief geological divisions. Brøgger has found that the succession of strata in the Hårteigen Mountain has been as follows. 1. Lowermost, lying on old granite, Alum-schist (in Hulberget containing distyonema sp.), circ.50 m. 2. Dark bluish quartzite, 40 m. 3.Limestone interstratified with phyllite, and turning into it higher up. Circ.10 m. 4. Phyllite. Circ.220 m. 5.Crystalline schists, mica schist, gneiss, amphi- bole-schist, etc. Circ.240 m. The occurrence of the dark bluish quartzite and the limestone is sketched on the map (the quartzite with small dots). These rocks do not play the same part everywhere in the district as they do in the particular spot studied by Brøgger; but it is certainly the rule that black phyllite, alum-schist, occurs at the base of the Cambro-silurian throughout the district. With regard to the fifth division, both Brøgger and the present geol- ogists have altered their opinion.
