dc.description.abstractThe reconstructions are based mainly on analysis of glacial striae. The oldest striae indicate that the glacier flow, was influenced by the deep Hardangerfjord, even during the Weichselian maximum. Younger striae of assumed Allerød age, shows that the area was than nearly deglaciated. Still younger striae are clearly from the major Younger Dryas readvance, in the course of which the area was completely covered by the ice sheet. The Younger Dryas ice sheet is reconstructed on the basis of the glacial striae, marginal moraines and theoretical ice profiles. Ice movements during the deglaciation after the Younger Dryas were mainly governed by the local topography.
