Abstract

Forkortet: While a high-arctic climate vet was prevailing, a submergence seems to have taken place in the north of Norway, corresponding to the late glacial sub- mergence at the Oslofjord, according to Brøgger's investigations. At Bodø and Tromsø, near the present level of the sea, yoldia-clay has been found with a fauna of exclusively arctic species; several of these show individuals of such dimensions, as in actual times are not found outside the high-arctic seas. The fauna greatly resembles that of the yoldia-clay in the south-eastern part of Norway, which is supposed by W.C.Brøgger to have been deposited in relatively shoal water. At Bodø Bathyarca glacialis (=Arca glacialis), who lives at greater depths than the fauna of the yoldia-clay, has been found in the upper part of the clay; also at Tromsø arca-clay, that must be assumed to have been deposited in deeper water, is found on the surface of the clay on the western shore of the isle. The fauna of this clay is still quite arctic.
