Forkortet. Bedrock mapping and investigations of rock-types in Finnmark as well as else- where in Norway have made it possible to classify the components by their strength or mechanical properties. Three categories of strength, high, medium-high or low, are recognised. In terms of influence of bedrock and Quaternary processes is it further possible to divide the county of Finnmark into areas where sand and gravel deposits are classified as good, medium-good or poor. The evaluation of sand and gravel deposits is based on the total volume and grain-size variation of the deposit and the composition and mechanical properties of rocks in the gravel fraction.
