Abstract

This work commences with a preface indicating the development in the modern tendency of soil research in Norway by studies of soil profiles and by investigations regarding the influence of the climatic factors upon the soil. To assist in this task, the Royal Norwegian Agricultural Society, in 1908, appointed a Soil Committee with the present author as chairman. The Committe was dissolved in 1921 and its work was transferred to the State Soil Research Board associated with the Geological Institute of the Agricultural College of Norway with the author as director until 1930 when, on attaining the age of 70, he retired in accordance with the regulations. Section I (page 10) is an introduction with a brief historical survey of the development of soil research and with a review of the work done and the results hitherto attained.
