dc.description.abstract | Forkortet: About 12.30 A.M. on the 19th May 1893 occurred the great landslip in Verdal which had the effect of concentrating the attention to the whole country upon that valley for several weeks. The little sketch map (Compare p.1) shows the outline of the landslip's depression (on both sides of the line marked \"Follobekken\" = Follo stream) and the masses of clay which slid down into the valley. The clay is left without any special marks; the area covered with fine dots represents sand. With coarser dots is indicated the layer of sand which forms the flat surface at Uglen and is deposited above the clay. With irregularly placed short lines are indicated masses which are supposed to have been accumulated by some previous landslip. The next drawing (fig.2) represents a generalized birds-eye view of the landslip. The greatest height of the stratified material in Verdal is about 125 m above sea-level. In the part that was displaced by slipping the beds consisted of marine clay which in the western part was overlaid with sand. The lower surface boundary of the sand dips in a westerly direction. The most recent deposit was turf. On several of the displaced farms there was very soft clay in which slips had taken place on previous occasions. | |
