Bidrag til Sørlandets kvartærgeologi
Abstract
Forkortet: The present paper contains some glaciological observations made in Nedenes amt and Lista og Mandal amt (Sørlandet) in the Southernmost part of Norway. The observations in Lista and Mandal amt have confined to the coast district from Kristiansand to Lista, those in Nedenes amt to the coast district from Lyngør to Grimstad. In the neighbourhoos of Kristiansand the upper boundary of glacial marine deposits and that of the postglacial ones are situated respecti- vely about 50 and about 20 m above the sea. The land has been submerged twice, and between the two submergences it seems to have been lifted up at least to its present level. In consequence the marine deposits found above the present shore are either glacial or postglacial. No connecting deposits are known. In the prsent paper only one glacial deposits with fosils in the district is mentioned, that of Ytre Mæbøkilen at Flekkerøy. As is often the case in Sør- landet, the mollusks from the glacial period have been mingled with mollusks from postglacial and recent periods. Recent mollusk species are still found living here, as the occurrence is situated on the present shore. Vestiges of a glacial deposit have been observed at Mandal.
