Geologi og bunnforhold i Andfjorden og Stjernsundet/Sørøysundet
Abstract
I perioder med dårlig vær har MAREANOs kartlegging av bunnforhold, fauna, naturtyper og forurensing måttet foregå i beskyttede fjorder langs kysten. To av fjordområdene som er undersøkt ved hjelp av video og prøvetaking er Andfjorden og Stjernsundet\/Sørøysundet.\rDenne rapporten oppsummerer geologi og bunnforhold i de aktuelle fjordområdene basert på dybdeforhold og bunnreflektivitet (backscatter) prosessert fra multistråledata innsamlet av Forsvarets forskningsinstitutt (FFI) og Statens kartverk Sjøkartverket, data innsamlet på MAREANO-tokt, prøver innsamlet i regi av NGU og Universitetet i Tromsø, og annen publisert informasjon. De geologiske kartene presenteres i tillegg på www.mareano.no fra NGUs maringeologiske database. De geologiske data som presenteres her vil sammen med biologiske data danne grunnlag for naturtypekart basert på Naturtyper i Norge (NiN).\rBunnsedimentene i nordvestlige del av Andfjorden består overveiende av slamholdig sand. I øst og sør finner en et kupert landskap med fjellknauser, som har et tynt eller usammenhengende sedimentdekke, og dypere bassenger med større sedimentmektighet.\rI de dype delene av Stjernsundet og Sørøysundet består bunnsedimentene av sandholdig slam. En morenerygg i Stjernsundet er dekket av grovere sedimenter. Fjordsidene har et tynt eller usammenhengende sedimentdekke og sedimenter med varierende kornstørrelse. De grunnere områdene i Sørøysundet er dominert av sandholdig grus og grusholdig sand.
